The recent special offer for the Melusine Dance of Mystery & Magick Tantric Shamanic Ritual inspired a lot of questions from students about the qualities and mythology of this mystical and magickal Goddess. I have worked with Melusine as an aspect of the Great Mother Goddess since my earliest magickal training back in the early 90s – but in the last seven years, I’ve worked with her much more closely in my personal rituals. Her calling has corresponded with a number of significant experiences in my own life, and her support and guidance have helped me navigate some of the rites of passage women experience through their 40s. Now, into my 50s, her presence continues to inspire my magickal work. Melusine: Goddess, Fairy, Nymph

& Archetype…

Melusine is usually depicted as a Goddess – but in other places, she is understood as an elemental being, fairy, or nymph. She is sometimes depicted as a mermaid, and sometimes as a dragon, serpent, snake, or hybrid. According to myth, she is a walker between the worlds: half human and half spirit. Her "otherness" makes her appealing and inspiring to many who walk the liminal spaces. If you feel like you are "in this world but not of it", Melusine’s story and timeless archetype may resonate strongly with you. By connecting with her, you may find greater confidence and courage to be yourself, and to accept your uniqueness as part of your spiritual path.

A further connection I recognise with Melusine comes from her link to Rhesus negative (Rh-negative) bloodlines – often considered indicative of otherness or "dragon" ancestry. While I’m not Rh-negative myself, I was born of a Rh-negative mother. The peculiarities of my birth, combined with being neurodivergent and having temporal lobe epilepsy, marked me as “gifted” in traditional witchcraft. In some traditions, those with epilepsy were considered essential members of covens – visionaries and priestesses who could convey spells to the spirit world for proper seeding. I certainly consider my neurodivergence and epilepsy part of my gifts. They have shaped my work as a healer, teacher, shaman, and professional witch. We’ll look at the significance of the Rh-negative bloodline and lineage more deeply later in this article. Today, I want to offer an overview of Melusine – and I hope that if you feel her story calls to you, you’ll consider building a relationship with this Goddess through your energy healing and spiritual practice.

The Myths & Legends of the

Goddess Melusine: A Queen

Between Worlds…

Melusine is a figure from European folklore, often depicted as a woman who is human from the waist up but serpentine or fish-like from the waist down. In some versions of her myth, she appears as a mermaid; in others, a dragon-woman. The core of Melusine’s myth is her marriage to a mortal man under strict conditions: he must never see her on a particular day of the week (usually Saturday), when she must assume her true, non-human form. Predictably, he breaks this promise, sees her bathing as a serpent, and the betrayal forces her to leave him – though she continues to care for their children and sometimes aids the family from afar. Melusine represents a liminal being: one foot in the human world, one in the otherworld. She embodies transformation, secrecy, sovereignty, and the idea that divine or magical bloodlines walk hidden among mortals.

Popularity and Meaning in Past

In the Middle Ages, Melusine was extremely popular. Her story symbolised the idea of divine right through descent from the supernatural, justifying the special status of certain noble houses. In contemporary times, Melusine’s myth resonates with people seeking to reconnect with lost feminine mysteries, suppressed ancestral wisdom, and the concept of being "other" in a mundane world. Her resurgence in modern spirituality links her to starseeds, witches, fey- blooded people, and those who feel alienated from ordinary life.

Historical Connections to Royal

Lineages…

The Plantagenet dynasty of England, notably involved in the Wars of the Roses, claimed descent from Melusine. Geoffrey of Anjou, a key ancestor of this lineage, was depicted with a dragon on his helmet – a hint at his fabled ancestry. The Angevins, and later their descendants the Plantagenets and Tudors, used this mythic connection to bolster their claims to divine right, portraying themselves as uniquely destined to rule. The legend of Melusine intertwined with real-world power struggles, lending magical legitimacy to those who ruled.

What is Rh-Negative Blood? The Rh factor is a protein found on the surface of red blood cells. If you have it, you are Rh-positive; if you lack it, you are Rh-negative. About 15% of people of European descent are Rh- negative, with much lower percentages in African and Asian populations.

• Immune Reaction: If an Rh- negative mother carries an Rh- positive fetus, her body may treat it as foreign, potentially causing miscarriage or severe health issues if untreated. • Neurological Effects: Some studies suggest subtle neurological differences in Rh- incompatible pregnancies, potentially influencing sensory processing, epilepsy, and emotional sensitivity.

Across mystical traditions, those with Rh-negative blood have often been seen as: • Descendants of the Gods: Linked to ancient serpent or dragon deities. • Fey-Touched: Descendants of faerie beings or interdimensional entities. • Star Children: Hybrids of ancient extraterrestrial races, possibly linked to the Anunnaki. The rarity and immune "foreignness" of Rh-negative blood have fuelled theories that it represents an ancient or otherworldly lineage preserved through certain families and cultures.

In this context, Rh-negative individuals are seen as spiritual hybrids, retaining latent psychic and spiritual abilities designed for higher consciousness.

Thus, Melusine’s myth mirrors both biological realities and the mythic truth: some lineages carry the blood of spirit beings.

Melusine is not an isolated figure, but part of a widespread, ancient memory of the Divine Feminine – the queens, priestesses, and mothers who shaped destiny from behind the veil.
