Kundalini Awakening: Energy

Work, Ascension &

Enlightenment…

What Is Kundalini Energy?...

Kundalini energy is often described as a coiled serpent resting at the base of the spine – the level of the Root Chakra which is the energetic centre that connects us to the physical body and to the earth. The coiled serpent is a potent symbol for the divine force that lies dormant within us all. We can also see this symbolism reflected in stories like the myth of Melusine – a goddess or fey that has a serpentine tail, or takes on the form of a dragon indicating her magic and power. Kundalini is a current of primal life-force energy that flows through the chakras, from the base of the spine, to the crown of the head; and when this energetic channel is fully activated, it awakens us to our full spiritual potential. Kundalini is consciousness in motion – it’s the full embodiment of soul energy. The energy channel that links our chakras runs the entire length of the spine, creating a sacred bridge between the physical and the spiritual, the Earth and the cosmos. When Kundalini Awakening occurs, the coiled serpent that represents our potential, climbs the central channel, illuminating and activating the chakras as it rises. This process of “raising the Kundalini” can be gentle and intuitive - or intense and catalytic - depending on the readiness of your energy field and the balance of your life.

Why Do We Raise Kundalini?…

We raise Kundalini to reconnect with our soul’s deepest purpose. When this energy awakens, it brings buried emotions to the surface for resolution, clears out old conditioning, and reveals higher states of awareness. It is a spiritual purification - a burning away of the false self so that the true self can emerge. This journey isn’t about transcendence in the sense of leaving the body behind. Quite the opposite. Kundalini brings the light of spirit down into the body. It’s an anchoring of divinity into form. A mystical dance between heaven and earth that takes place within us, and allows our ordinary lives become sacred ground.

The Natural Process of Kundalini Awakening…

Kundalini doesn’t always need to be summoned through specific techniques. For many, the awakening of this energy happens naturally through life’s initiations - grief, trauma, heartbreak, birth, puberty, menopause, creative breakthroughs, or deep spiritual work. Spiritual awakening involves sacrificing lower levels of consciousness and moving beyond the limitations of the past. A way to understand why this path is difficult is reflecting on how difficult it is to give up a bad habit, a toxic relationship, an addiction or a negative way of thinking. Often people know that they “should” – and on some level they want to overcome those limitations. But when they try to do it, they have to confront the fear, anger, grief and heartache that caused them to fall into those negative habits in the first place. When we consciously choose to progress our spiritual path, those same issues can come up for healing. It takes courage and strength to face things but ultimately we emerge like butterflies from a cocoon – changed, empowered and awake! Sometimes the journey begins with a quiet pull toward meditation. We feel that something’s at odds in ourselves, and we’re looking for a way of reconnecting with our energy. Energy healing practices are a perfect place to start exploring yourself. Other times, it’s a full-body rush that floods your awareness unexpectedly and overwhelmingly. And in both instances there’s often a catalyst for this change in your energy in the form of a relationship, a bereavement or a sudden change in circumstances. It often seems that the catalyst is external, but the fire it lights is within us. However it begins, the process is unique for each and every soul. Don’t judge your own path or others’ because every life journey is equally sacred and meaningful. It’s important to know that Kundalini awakening is not a goal or destination. It’s a response to shifts in your energy and when your system is ready to process and integrate higher frequencies of energy, the Kundalini rises to assist in that evolution. If the idea of a coiled serpent doesn’t resonate with you, you might equally see this process of awakening as the blooming of a lotus flower – rooted in the darkness and dirtiness, the seed splits, and grows up through the murky waters, into the light, and opens to the light of the sun.

The Pitfalls of Premature Awakening…

While Kundalini is a divine force, its awakening must be approached with humility and care. If the energy begins to rise before the chakras are balanced or the nervous system is prepared, the experience can be overwhelming. Unbalanced awakening can manifest as anxiety, insomnia, chronic fatigue, emotional upheaval, or even physical symptoms like headaches or muscle tension. These challenges arise not because the energy is harmful, but because the body and energy field are not yet aligned to contain it. That’s why grounding practices are essential - they help integrate the energy gradually, allowing you to maintain stability as you expand. I teach grounding practices as part of my energy healing courses – it’s one of the most important things you can learn as an energy healer, lightworker, empath or intuitive – grounding your energy keeps you healthy and balanced and keeps your energy field naturally protected.

Kundalini Yoga and Energetic Balance…

Kundalini Yoga is a powerful practice designed to activate the Kundalini energy using breathwork, movement, mantra, and meditation. But while its potential is immense, it’s not always suitable for beginners - especially those who are energetically sensitive or carrying unresolved emotional wounds. In some cases, practicing Kundalini Yoga without adequate grounding or energetic preparation can initiate a premature awakening. This can cause people to think Kundalini energy is dangerous because of the side effects they experience - but the truth is, the danger lies in pushing the process – forcing a Kundalini Awakening and seeking an elevated state with the ego involved. Often people don’t recognise their ego is involved – but if you feel like you’re in an enormous hurry to “achieve ascension”, often it’s the ego that’s driving you. Your soul is eternal and has all the time in the Universe! Your ego wants what it wants now. Kundalini is not something to be forced. It responds to surrender. When we honour our own timing and trust the unfolding, the energy rises in harmony with our inner readiness. Enhancing your Kundalini Yoga practice with Kundalini Reiki can be a game-changer. It brings balance to the energy centres, clears blockages, and supports integration so the body and spirit remain in alignment.

What Is Kundalini Reiki?...

Kundalini Reiki is one of the most popular energy healing systems I teach - and for good reason. It’s simple, versatile, and incredibly effective! It’s one of the systems I use most in my own practice. Unlike more structured systems like Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki or Avalonian Alignment, Kundalini Reiki is intention-based. That means you don’t need specific symbols or elaborate protocols with hand positions or mantras. Once you’ve been attuned to it, you simply connect with the energy through your intention and allow it to flow where it’s needed. It’s a deeply empowering practice that allows you to work with the Kundalini current in a safe, grounded way.

The Many Uses of Kundalini Reiki…

Kundalini Reiki can be used in countless ways to support your energy body and spiritual growth. Some of my favourite applications include: Chakra Balancing: Channel the energy to each chakra to restore alignment and flow. Home Energy Clearing: Use it to shift the vibration in your living space - especially useful after arguments, illness, or stressful periods. Crystal Cleansing: Simply channel the energy into your crystals to refresh and reprogram them. Sacred Object Charging: Empower talismans, ritual tools, or jewellery with specific intentions. Ritual Baths: Charge your bath water with Kundalini Reiki for a cleansing and uplifting soak. Energising Food & Drink: Infuse your meals with love and light by channelling energy into your food before eating. Morning Meditations: My favourite use is the Kundalini Fire Meditation - a powerful way to begin the day. The energy is very stimulating, so it’s best used in the morning, before breakfast. Don’t forget to ground afterward. Before Rituals: The Kundalini Fire Meditation and Crystalline Reiki (which is part of the Kundalini Reiki course) to clear the energy field – it’s a perfect energetic purification rite. You can even use Kundalini Reiki to amplify your manifestation practice. Write your goals or intentions for the day, place them between your palms, and complete the Kundalini Fire Meditation while focusing on them. This aligns your personal energy field with your desired outcomes in a high- vibrational way.

Extra Attunements…

When you complete the Kundalini Master Attunement, you receive seven additional energetic tools that expand the power and versatility of your practice: Balance All – Restores balance and harmony within your energy field Diamond Reiki – Strengthens the flow of spiritual energy through your crown chakra – great for clearing blocks and opening up to higher levels of consciousness Crystalline Reiki – Great for clearing the residual energetic signatures left in the body from trauma or negative experiences DNA Reiki – Clears blocks that hinder the expression of your energetic DNA – this can help to awaken your spiritual gifts and restore balance to your physical body Birth Trauma Reiki – This works at the level of the unconscious mind because although we may experience birth trauma, it’s not the kind of trauma we can work through in therapy. Location Reiki – This works to release the energetic connections we have to places – which might be something positive like when you move home, or negative when you want to release a connection to a location you experienced trauma in. Past Life Reiki – This works to release negative energetic imprints from past life experiences that are still affecting our energy in our current incarnation These connections allow you to work deeply and intuitively, tailoring your healing sessions to suit your needs on a daily basis. Working with these different frequencies as part of your daily Kundalini Fire Meditation can help you to fine tune your practice, and deepen your healing.

Embracing the Natural Path of Awakening…

It’s important to remember that Kundalini awakening is part of our natural evolution. You don’t need to chase it, force it, or fear it. It will unfold in its own time, in its own way - whether or not you practice Kundalini Yoga, study energy healing, or read a single spiritual book! But when you choose to walk this path consciously, you bring light to the process. You begin to understand how your energy flows, how your consciousness expands, and how you can support your own awakening journey with grace.
